Ph.D Funding

Applications for Ph.D. studentships are invited. Possible support may be secured from one of the following schemes:

EPSRC DTA Studentships. The department awards ca. 15 each year. Enquiries should be directed to the Postgraduate admissions tutor.
Boehringer Ingelheim Fonds
Awarded to outstanding young scientists (max. age: 27 years) who wish to pursue an ambitious PhD project of approximately 3 years in basic biomedical research.
Commonwealth Scholarship & Fellowship Plan (CSFP)
Awarded to students from Commonwealth countries
Durham Doctoral Fellowship Scheme
For outstanding students, the grant provides a full waiver of fees, a maintenance award at the nationally agreed rate and a research training support grant
Fulbright awards
Allowing US citizens to study, lecture or pursue research in the UK or vice versa
The Henry Lester Trust
For Citizens of the People’s Republic of China who are interested in studying in the UK.
Marshall Scholarships
Marshall Scholarships finance young Americans of high ability to study for a degree in the United Kingdom.
Overseas Research Students Award Scheme (ORSAS)
Attracting high-quality international students to the United Kingdom to undertake research.

Undergraduate Funding

Summer vacation studentships for undergraduate students before their final year are available under one of the following schemes:
